Collar badges
In its beginnings, the classic collar badge was certainly used on military uniform jackets.
It had different colours to show one’s type of corps or arms.
Nowadays, collar badges are not only used by musicians but the German Armed Forces (“Bundeswehr”) also still use them.
The modern types of collar badges are used when it comes to show or define rank badges.
The classic collar badge is made of felt material which may be edged with a cord.
On the collar badge’s base there are embroideries or metal badges showing e.g. a lyre or drummer motif.
The military authorities use woven collar badges for personnel, machine embroidered collar badges for non-commissioned officers (sub-officers) and hand embroidered collar badges for officers and generals.
More and more military authorities start replacing metal badges by woven collar badges which may even be equipped with hook tape or modern tape fastener technology on their back side making the collar badge easier to replace.
The lack of metal also improves the collar badge’s wearing properties.
